Snowpeaks Tours & Adventure Safaris was established in the year 2001 by Kenyan who had worked as a Mt. Kenya guide since 1993 and we are expert in East Africa mountain climbing, nature treks, luxury & camping safaris, hotel & lodge bookings, professional safari guiding and porter services.
i) NAROMORU: This is the quickest way to ascend with large variety of alpine vegetation above tropical rain forest, bamboo and hagenia zones. Accommodation is in manned huts at met-station and Mackinders camps.
ii) SIRIMON : this is the drier side of Mt. Kenya to the first camp north and give a gentle ascend to the bottom of the main peaks, the first camp at Judemier give a superb view point where in the evening animals and sunset mark the day
iii) CHOGORIA: this route is to the eastern side of the mountain and the most beautiful with a long stretch of rain forest, bamboo and alpine vegetational zones before reaching the eye catching Gorges valley and main peaks emerging at the top. Access becomes difficulty during rainy season as roads turn impassible and need camping facilities as we have no manned huts on this route from park gate.
iv) BURGURET: This lies on the western side of the mountain and makes as a true naturalist trail .A dense bamboo forest forms the canopy of this old trail where Columbus and Syke monkeys may be encountered. Elephants and buffaloes are common in this route. Camping gears are required apart from highland castle where night can be spent in a cave.
v) TIMAU TRUCK: the trail lies to the northern side and have wide range of open grasslands where Elands, zebra, buffaloes and lions may be encountered. This route is more drier and has fascinating adulating moorland. Camping gears are required as the route has no huts.
vi) KAMWETI TRAIL: this is less famous and hardly used trail on Southern side.
Health: Malaria tables and Certificate of Yellow fever vaccines are recommended to all travelers. Pain killers and a personal first aid kit is also recommended. It is advisable for the clients to consult their doctors for their medical awareness and give information to the travel Agent, group leader and guides for closer attention. Also to have proper medics in case of people with long term health consultations.
Rescue services are organized 24hrs. with assistance by the National Park team. It is advisable to report the incident early in order for conducting the rescue services. We advice the clients to pass information before the problem get to a serious stage. Some rescue does not involve Helicopter evacuation and that can be organized with assistance from the travel agency, Park and the clients or their insurance agencies.
The following is a list of mountaineering equipment: Sleeping bags, rucksack, hiking boots, flashlight (torch) with extra batteries, warm , Balaclava (woolen hat), several pairs of warm socks, a pair of gloves , water proof trousers, (rain coat, freezer or warm sweater(s), water-bottle1.5 liters, walking sticks, binoculars, light toiletry articles (personal items),
Tipping: This is a part of appreciation you give to the crews and is not a must but it depends on the number of crew and the service from $10 - 25 per serviceman per day based on whether you served as a porter, cook or a guide.
